LOS ANGELES (TCN) -- A judge has ruled that a 35-year-old woman was insane at the time that she killed her young daughters in 2017.On Oct. 19, 2017, a 38-day-old baby girl, Kamille, and 7-year-old Jaliya were found naked and unconscious in a parking lot along with their mother, Jasmine Raquel Hickman, CBS News reported at the time. All of them were covered in a white powdery substance. The baby was pronounced dead at a hospital and the older girl was hospitalized in critical condition and later died. A hazmat team processed the white powder, which turned out to be a combination of formula and baby powder.Patch reports the girls were suffocated.According to CBS, an employee at a nearby business said Hickman and the older girl had come into the store the day before they were found. She said the girl’s hair was uncombed and she was not wearing shoes. According to a family member at the time, Hickman told him, “God said my time was up, and to say my goodbyes to Jaliya,” NBC Los Angeles reported. He was concerned enough to call child services, who told him that since she was Jaliya’s mother, Hickman had the right to take her. Three days later, the family was found in the parking lot.According to NBC Los Angeles, the children’s deaths were ruled homicides and Hickman was charged with murder. Patch reports that on June 16, Hickman admitted she killed her daughters and a judge ruled she was insane at the time. When she regained consciousness in the parking lot, she reportedly said God had asked her to sacrifice her children.According to Patch, Hickman apologized and said, “I know if I had been in my right mind I would have never done what I did. … They really deserved better than that. … Now all we have is our memories.” She withdrew her not guilty plea and will spend the rest of her life in a state mental health facility.MORE: ‘I gave him to God’: Amish mother found not guilty by reason of insanity in 4-year-old son’s drowning death — True Crime NewsGa. mom who drowned 1-year-old daughter in pond found not guilty by reason of insanity — True Crime News
