    Amazon warehouse employee sentenced for shooting colleague over missing flashlight accessory

    DAKOTA COUNTY, Minn. (TCN) – A man has been sentenced to 10 ½ years in prison for the fatal shooting of his colleague at an Amazon fulfillment center in 2024.The Dakota County Attorney’s Office announced the sentencing of ​​26-year-old Mohamed Aden Hared on May 29. He pleaded guilty to one count of unintentional second-degree murder while committing a felony in January and will receive 700 days credit for time served.On June 29, 2024, Hared was carpooling to work with Ahmed Ibrahim Cariif, 22, and another man, the county attorney’s office announced at the time. Hared had brought a gun with him that had a flashlight attached to it and left it in the car. During a break from his shift, Hared returned to the car and found that the accessory was missing and accused the others he had carpooled with of stealing it. During another work break, all three searched for the attachment and could not find it; they denied taking it and Hared continued to blame them.A physical altercation ensued, in which Hared fired his gun and hit a car nearby as the other two men pleaded him to not shoot. Hared fired the gun again and hit Cariif, according to the county attorney’s office. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Law & Crime, multiple people at the Amazon fulfillment center, where the men worked, dialed 911 to report a shooting. When police arrived, Hared said that he had accidentally shot his colleague.Cariif was pronounced dead at the scene.
